Barry in talks with MCFC

Very exciting news emerging today. There were rumours in Sunday's News of the World but this is a step further. I'd be delighted if we got Barry - he's got the quality and experience to drag our midfield up top top six standard. I still think we'll have a real battle with Liverpool to sign him though. Especially if they sell Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid.

We are already in talks with Barry so if he is really that interested in signing for us Liverpool won't get chance to step in will they?

If Barry comes in its goodbye to:

Richard Dunne (Kompany moves back to centre half)
Midfield 3 of Barry, de Jong and Ireland

-OR-

Elano
Based on SWP playing wide right and Ireland being able to cover that position

-OR-

Michael Johnson
Who in my mind is a very similar style of player to Barry

I concur - all the papers are hinting that the deal could be completed today! Looking good!

What do you reckon to the other news of today - i.e. Tugay joining us as a coach...?

GARETH BARRY will be wearing a sky blue shirt next season after Mark Hughes today clinched a £12million move from Aston Villa to the City of Manchester Stadium for the highly-rated England midfielder.

It's a ludicrous move for Gareth Barry and signals that he has chosen the money over the football.

In fairness, the form of Xabi Alonso and his recent commitment to Liverpool (three-year contract) meant that Barry's dream move had probably evaporated. However, Villa are building a good team and it would have been nice to see him take the hometown loyalty over the reported £100,000 per week he's going to receive at City.

I think it probably means the end of the road for Michael Johnson, who doesn't seem to be in Hughes' thinking. Perhaps he'll end up at Villa as Barry's replacement!
